The CLC is looking for new Editors-in-Chief
-
The Editors-in-Chief determine the overall direction of the publication and ensure that everyday operations run smoothly.
It is their job to recruit a team of writers, editors, and managers, to whom they can delegate tasks efficiently. They must be able to communicate effectively online and in meetings to make sure that tasks are completed on time and that any issues are rapidly resolved.
-
The Editors-in-Chief are responsible for building on existing projects: our website, social media, newsletter, and events, as well as the annual schools' essay competition and print edition.
But the beauty of the role is that you get to define what it looks like. If you have bold ideas about how the CLC can develop in the future, now is the time to apply!
-
Passion for languages and culture
Bold ideas for growing the CLC
Management and communication skills
Willingness to dedicate time and energy to the publication
Writing and editing experience
Social media and website design abilities
Don't worry if you don't have all of these yet - what is most important is your interest, reliability, and willingness to learn
-
Send an email to cambridgelanguagecollective@mmll.cam.ac.uk with your answers to the following questions:
What experience do you have for the role? (200 words)
Why do you want the role? (200 words)
What is your vision for the CLC? (200 words)
Please include your name, subject, college, and year of study.
Deadline: 5pm, Monday 22 June
Staff Writer and Columnist applications are always open
Staff Writer
As a staff writer, you will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of topics while developing your writing skills. You’ll pick a section and become part of a team of 5-10 journalists who meet every fortnight to discuss their ideas.
An editor will read through all your articles and make suggestions before uploading them to our website. The minimum requirement is two pieces per term but you’re more than welcome to submit more!
The scope of the CLC is incredibly broad. Each geographical section accepts articles about politics, arts, history, culture, philosophy and more. We also have sections on linguistics, travel writing and the year abroad.
Most of our articles are in English, but we also love submissions in other languages. We welcome reviews, interviews, features and opinion pieces, but also creative submissions like poetry and short stories. So let your imagination run wild!
To apply, please answer the following questions:
What is your name, college, year, and subject?
What experience do you have? (max 200 words)
Choose an article on our website and rewrite the opening paragraph (max 200 words)
Suggest two article ideas (100 words each)
Please include the section you are applying for as well as any others that you would consider.
Sections: Americas; Asia; Europe; Linguistics; Middle East, Africa and Central Asia; Travel; Year Abroad
Columnist
As a columnist, you will write a series of articles on a single theme, still within one of our seven sections. If you have a particular interest or perspective to offer and you like to go into more depth with your articles, this is the role for you. It’s slightly higher commitment than the staff writer position, requiring one article every fortnight. However, this means you’ll produce a whole body of work to be proud of.
For previous examples, see “Québec Chronicles” or “What’s App in Italian Linguistics”.
To apply, please answer the following questions:
What is your name, college, year, and subject?
What experience do you have? (200 words max)
Describe your column idea (200 words max)
Suggest two editions of your column (100 words each)
Please include the section your column would fall under as well as any other roles you would be interested in.
Please send us your answers at any time to cambridgelanguagecollective@mmll.cam.ac.uk
All years and subjects may apply. Get in touch if you have any questions.
