There are several ways you can write for the Cambridge Language Collective:

Submissions

The CLC is always open to submissions which address topics from beyond the English-speaking world, whether that be arts and culture, politics and current affairs, or linguistics. We encourage all types of articles, including reviews, interviews, opinion pieces, reports and features. Creative entries such as poetry, art, photography and short stories are also encouraged, as are submissions in languages other than English.

If you would like to write an article for us, please email a 100-200 word pitch with an outline of your ideas and a proposed word count to the appropriate section. You can find the email addresses here.

Commissions

Each section publishes a set of commissions each term and anyone may pitch to write an article based on these. Follow our social media to make sure you never miss their release!

If you see an idea that you would like to write, please contact the appropriate email.

Staff Writers and Columnists

All sections have a team of 5-10 staff writers who each produce a minimum of two articles per term. Columnists write more regularly on a single topic. We are always looking to recruit new members. To learn more, click here.

Illustrators and Photographers

We also have a group of illustrators and photographers who provide visuals for our website, newsletters and print edition. Get in touch if you would like to join the team. Alternatively, you can pitch a piece of art or photography to any of our sections at any time (see “Submissions”).

Join the team

The CLC is a student society registered with the Cambridge University Student Union. A new team is elected every academic year, consisting of various Section Editors and an Executive Committee. Meet the current team here.

To join the CLC team, you must be a current student at the University of Cambridge. We do, however, accept submissions from outside the University community.
