Just One More Episode - Jane the Virgin
Ollie Little and Sybilla Hamilton
Welcome back to your second instalment of Just One More Episode with your faithful presenters, Ollie Little and Sybilla Hamilton! In true Cambridge fashion plans have gone awry, and our much-anticipated review of Le Chalet is on hold for a week. Let the record stress that this is in no way, shape or form due to excessive time spent discussing WandaVision theories, but rather the pressing demands of the degree in which we may or may not currently be partaking.
Our knight in shining armour comes in the form of the Cambridge Language Collective’s own Katie Windrum, a French and Spanish finalist born and bred up the hill in Murray Edwards. In this edition, she provides a persuasive analysis of Jane the Virgin, an American rom-com drama.
Set in the city of Miami, the five series follow protagonist Jane’s romantic pursuits and complications as she battles an internal conflict, having vowed to not lose her virginity until marriage. One accidental artificial insemination later (don’t ask), she enters a key stage of her life juggling child, child’s father, policeman boyfriend and aspirations for a writing career.
Not relevant to the podcast, you say? We said the same. But Katie’s analysis of its mimicry of the telenovela genre would say otherwise. Listen and find out why Jane the Virgin is so much more than a typical rom-com.
And join us next time as we get to grips with the mystery of the disappearance of a French family at a chalet in the Alps. Before reviewing Le Chalet however, it would seem that Ollie and I have to solve the mystery of our time management.
